User Guide: Adding pages (Next Page/Previous Page)

These instructions are to enable the Next Page/Previous Page function to work. This enables the Next page and Previous page to be displayed at the bottom of a screen to page forward and backward through the relevant pages.

To Include a New Page

  1. Open two sessions so you can flip from one screen back to the other.
  2. On screen one, open your New Page using ‘Classic Editor.
  3. at the bottom of the text entry add
    < Previous Page
    Next Page >
  4. Scroll down to ‘Custom Fields’
  5. Go to ‘Add new custom field’
  6. In the ‘Name’ field, use the drop down to find and click on ‘ncs-previous-page’
  7. Decide where the page should come in the Next page/previous page.
  8. On Screen Two, find the Page that will be your new page’s ‘previous page’ on the Pages dashboard (using All Pages)
  9. Click on ‘Quick Edit’
  10. Copy the ‘slug’ (it will be something like our-scouts)
  11. On Screen One, paste the slug into the Value field that is beside Name (step 5 )
  12. Click on Add custom field
  13. On the ‘Name’ field, use the drop down to find and click on ‘ncs-next-page’
  14. Screen Two – find the page that will come after your new one
  15. Click on ‘Quick Edit’
  16. Copy the ‘slug’ (it will be something like our-scouts)
  17. On Screen One, paste the slug into the Value field that is beside Name (step 12 )
  18. Click the blue button (Publish if the page is new, Update if the page existed)
  19. Scroll to the bottom and copy the slug of your new page
  20. On screen Two, find the page that is the ‘previous page’ from the dashboard
  21. Click Classic editor
  22. Scroll down to Custom Fields
  23. Find the entry that states ‘ncs-next-page’
  24. Paste the slug from your new page into the value (overwrting the valye that was already there
  25. Click on the blue buton ‘Update’
  26. Now find the page that will be the next page after your new one
  27. Click Classic editor
  28. Scroll down to Custom Fields
  29. Find the entry that states ‘ncs-previous-page’
  30. Paste the slug from your new page into the value (overwrting the value that was already there
  31. Click on the blue buton ‘Update’
  32. You should be done now!
