The Sir John Lowther Centre (SJLC) are running a course on Saturday 31st May and Sunday 1st June 2025 to train adults* to obtain the NSRA Youth Proficiency Scheme Tutor accreditation provided by the National Small-bore Rifle Association.
The NRSA YPS Tutor accreditation is the minimum qualification required to instruct Scouts in air rifle shooting.
There are a maximum of 12 places on this course and these will be offered according to the following priority:
- Adults who can provide air rifle shooting instruction at SJLC during the day
- Adults who can provide air rifle shooting instruction at SJLC in the evening/weekends
- Adults who wish to gain the accreditation to provide air rifle shooting other than as an SJLC instructor
This is an externally run course, and is subsidised, but will need to be personally funded by those that will not be instructing at the Sir John Lowther Centre. This cost will be decided once the number of participants is finalised, but is anticipated to be in the range of £60 – £80.
Prospective SJLC instructors, make an initial payment, but are then reimbursed.
If you wish to apply for a place or obtain further information, then please contact

* Please note, that the legal minimum age to supervise the activity is 21. A person over the age of 18 can gain the tutor qualification but cannot run the activity without a qualified tutor over the age of 21 supervising the activity
