I am delighted to be able to announce that Sarah Watton has been appointed to the role of part-time Development Officer with specific responsibility for Northamptonshire.
Whilst Sarah is directly employed by The Scout Association, she is fully funded by Northamptonshire Scouts and will spend the majority of her time working in Northamptonshire.
Work has already started with District Commissioners to identify growth projects for Sarah to develop.
Whilst the county has made a significant financial investment in funding a part-time development officer, this is in addition to other staff who are part of the Midlands Growth and Development team, and who will continue to work in the Northamptonshire.
I first joined scouting as a Cub Scout Leader at 5th Brackley in 2017, I then progressed to ADC Growth & Development for Grafton in 2018 and still enjoy both of these voluntary roles. Working with children was something I had never considered in my younger years - my background had been very much design, secretarial and administration. Having had a successful career as PA to the Sales Director of a large organisation for a number of years I thought that I was destined to continue down that path. However having children meant a break from work and subsequent redundancies made me look for work closer to home. Part-time school hours in local schools, just 10 minutes walk from home seemed an ideal opportunity and I have worked with children ever since.
I've not looked back....
When my eldest was 3 my friend and I decided to throw a joint party for our boys. We both remember vividly how that party panned out - I asked my friend to run the games for the children while I continued to organise things in the background because I didn't know how to entertain a room full of children!
How times have changed since that 3rd birthday party - for the past 5 years I have ran lunchtime activities for children at the local junior school, ran cooking clubs after school in two different schools in Northamptonshire and now running my own cub pack in Brackley.
My passion for art and design runs through everything I do, I have my own micro business which I enjoy in my spare time and have taken my stock to many local shopping events. I also rent retail space in Brackley and Stamford in Lincolnshire where I grew up
I live in Brackley with my husband Ed, our two boys Ben and Heyden and our cat, Simba. I very much enjoy catching up with my family and old friends in Stamford. In fact when I was younger, I met Ant and Dec in Stamford at the local youth centre, when they were PJ and Duncan in Byker Grove and I still have their autographs. I will always watch I'm A Celebrity and Saturday Night Takeaway and say to anyone who is listening - "I've met them!"
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I am very much looking forward to working with you all in the County.
