1st Blisworth Leaders completed Three Peaks Challenge
Leaders from 1st Blisworth Scout Group, based in Northamptonshire, have successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for the Group.
Scout Leaders Steven Smith, Pete Rock, Steve and Michelle Watkins accomplished the challenge climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales – within 24 hours, including travel time.
Local Construction firm R G Cater provided the team with a Van and Fuel, enabling the team to complete the challenge in an impressive 22 hours, 53 minutes and 53 seconds.
Michelle Watkins, a receptionist at R G Carter, said the support she received from the company helped the team take on the tough challenge, saying:
“The Scout Group and I would like to than R G Carter for being supportive and providing us with the transport. Without the van, we could not have completed this challenge in the amazing time in which we did. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would urge anyone if they get the opportunity to take part to do so.”
Michelle and husband Steve provided support to Steven and Pete by cooking for them and driving between locations, a journey of almost 500 miles between the mountains and over 1,200 miles in total.
Steven mentioned earlier in the year that he would like to complete the National 3 Peaks Challenge this year and it would be great to raise money whilst doing so. The Group discussed that they needed new tents and outdoor equipment. Michelle and husband Steve immediately offered to support Steven throughout the challenge. Michelle approached R G Carter hoping for a donation but instead, they provided the transport and a fuel card, saving the team around £800 in transport costs.
When asked, Steven said “My favourite part of the challenge was seeing the beautiful sunny day as we arrived at Snowden, after the cold and rain at Ben Nevis and the darkness at Scafell Pike”
Michelle commented “a good meal and a comfy bed was amazing after a long couple of days! It was an amazing experience for all of the team and something we are all very proud of, and the support from all of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, and their parents were wonderful”
